Tractor / machinery operator fresh produce industry Kaitaia

The Wilcox Group of Companies grow, pack and distribute fresh produce for the domestic and export markets with growing operations based in Northland, Pukekohe,

Matamata and Ohakune.

We have a developing role for an experienced Tractor driver/machinery operator to join our operation based 45ks north of Kaitaia. The role will initially be permanent part time and requires someone who has flexibility to work increased hours when the seasonal workload peaks in May/June and again in September/November.

We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about the horticulture industry and is looking for a long term career role with the ability to advance. In time, we would see the successful candidate in a 2IC support role to our current Production Manager with potential to work full time. To be successful in this role, you will need to be a competent tractor driver and be keen to develop your skills in cultivation, planting and harvesting operations. Maintaining plant health is key to this role and you will be responsible for applying agri chemicals to crops as required. You need to have a good level of personal fitness as part of this role is supporting the Crop Manager in laying down crop trials and undertaking yield sample assessments.

This role would ideally suit someone who has already commenced or is ready to commence some relevant tertiary training – National Certificate in Horticulture Level 4 Advanced Vegetable Production preferred although not essential.

The successful applicant will be an experienced operator and will:

  • hold a minimum Class 2 license, preferably with an F endorsement
  • have some experience with ground preparation, sowing and harvesting
  • Maintenance and Service knowledge
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • able to keep excellent records
  • demonstrate a ‘can do’ attitude
  • have the flexibility to take on other tasks as and when required.
  • be team-oriented
  • appreciate the outdoor demands and conditions that will be part of this role

Wilcox operates drug and alcohol free sites and the successful candidate will be required to undergo pre employment drug testing and will be exposed to random drug screening once employed.
